Overview / Comments
As the sign at the entrance of the business says, THE MOST UNIQUE STORE IN TENNESSEE is the best way to describe this very unique opportunity. The Opera House is a prominent building in South Pittsburg. It has a very long history and has been many different businesses. It was a center of culture for many years until a fire destroyed the original 3 story building in 1907. A smaller one ( the one there now) was built in 1909. While as an opera house, it had a large staged area in the rear for shows. It is now an Antique Store and Record Shop. It has an eclectic collection of goodies that can fascinate even the most indifferent customer. This business is considered a music store in the broadest sense of the word. It comes with literally thousands of LP's, CD's, cassettes and 45's encompassing all genres of music. When i say thousands, there really is. Many are displayed in cases as can be seen in the pictures, but many more are in boxes in either of the two levels of this building. There are cases of 45's in boxes of Apple Label records by artists such as Badfinger. There are vintage musical instruments as well as entry level instruments of all kinds. Amplifiers, PA equipment, horns, stage lights, An autoharp with documentation of ownership of Mother Maybelle Carter. A lap steel owned by Grand Ole Opry star Stringbean. There are vintage juke boxes, pinball machines, microphones, vintage and new business signs, toys, collectables and the list goes on and on. There is an area where regular jam sessions take place. It includes PA, mikes, and a setting area for local musicians to check out instruments and them to get together and jam. On the second floor, you will find a full living quarters. It has a bedroom, 2 full baths, dressing area and a huge open concept living area. In this area you will find many unique items from a working barber chair, vintage Brunswick pool table, a mounted moose head that supposedly when it was killed, was the record in Canada. This area also contains a soda fountain that was moved from an old drug store complete with working milk shake machine. You can dance to music from another vintage juke box or have friends over and jam or have karaoke in another music space. This building is called the Opera House for a reason. Another unique aspect of the building is part of the upstairs section is the original seats for when plays, concerts, etc. were performed here. Acoustics are phenomenal. It would take much work to restore, but with the right vision it could become a showplace. This property is a working music store and is being sold as a business. All inventory conveys except owners private collection. As a working business inventory changes daily, so anything shown in pics may not be available at viewing. Would be a wonderful EBay business as well. The description could go on and on, but you really can't believe it until you see it yourself. |
